Ride forward, not faster

Many riders try to solve things by riding faster. More leg. More speed. More energy.
But forward riding and rushing are not the same thing. A horse can move quickly without balance. And a horse can feel powerful, active and expressive without increasing the tempo very much at all. That’s where many riders start to notice the real difference.
Forward riding is not about chasing speed — it’s about creating energy that travels through the whole horse. From the hind legs, through the body, into the contact.
When that happens, the horse often starts to feel lighter in your hand, more balanced underneath you and more connected overall.
And interestingly, many things actually become easier when you stop trying to ride “faster”. Transitions become smoother. The rhythm becomes clearer. The horse starts carrying itself better instead of falling onto the forehand.
A lot of riders discover that when things feel difficult, their instinct is to push more. But sometimes the answer is not more speed — it’s better balance, clearer aids and more controlled energy.
Forward riding should still feel calm. Like the horse is thinking forward with you, not running away from the work. And that feeling often starts with small adjustments:
A softer hand. A more stable seat. A clearer intention. Because some of the best riding doesn’t actually look fast at all. It just looks effortless.
🤍 Mini challenge: Next ride, focus on creating more energy without increasing speed. Think: more activity, more balance, more connection. Not more rushing.
